How do chores get marked and verified when completed?

Once a child has been assigned chores, it is a fairly simple process for the child to check off completed chores, and to have the completed chores verified by the parent. One important thing to keep in mind is that the parent is NOT able to verify completed chores before the child marks them as completed. To begin, the child must login to their account, and click on the 'Mark Chores' under the Chore Chart Functions menu.

The child should then see something like this:

= Unchecked box; the child checks this box if the chore has been completed
= This chore has been marked as completed already, but has not been verified by a parent
= This chore has beem marked as completed, and has been verified by a parent

That concludes the childrens portion of the process. The parents job, then, is to use the 'Verify Chores' button under the Chore Chart Functions menu for their children. This button will take them to the chore verification page for the child the parent has selected, where the parent will be able to verify the completion of chores that have already been marked as completed by the child.

The parent should then see something like this:

= Unchecked box; child has marked chore as completed, but needs to be verified by parent
= The child has not yet marked this chore as completed, so cannot be verified by parent
= This chore has beem marked as completed, and has been verified by a parent

Once the appropriate chores have been marked as completed, or have been verified by the parent, simply click the 'Update' button. Both the parent and child accounts will be updated accordingly. If chores have been verified by the parent, the corresponding amount of credit will be awarded to the child.

How can I motivate my kids to use their FamilyChores.com account?

The FamilyChores.com system is dependent on user input. It is therefore important that both parents and children login to their accounts regularly and keep the status of their chores updated at all times. It is particularly important for a parent to encourage a child to adopt this reward system by verifying completed chores frequently, and by challenging children to accumulate both points and credit to use towards their wishlist.

That having been said, a key step in the FamilyChores.com chore chart system is the development of the children's wishlist. Children are able to add items to their wishlist by clicking on the 'Add a Reward' button or clicking on an empty reward slot on their login page. Up to eight wishlist items are permitted, per child, and a full wishlist is a visual reminder of what the children are working towards.

So encourage your children to add some items to their wishlist!

How do I use FamilyChores.com with a young child?

FamilyChores.com is designed with children of all ages in mind. Even children that are too young to use a computer can make use of this chore chart system with a little help from their parents. Essentially, these younger children are differentiated from older and computer-literate ones by the lack of an email and password associated with their account. Parents will always have the ability to login to their childrens account, by using the corresponding 'Login as Child' button in the Parent Functions menu of their login page, as illustrated below:

Young children (those without an email address and password associated with their account) will have a an additional and reciprocal 'Login as Parent' button, as illustrated below:

The purpose of this link is to give the parents an easy way to move between the parent and child accounts, without having to login and logout each time. This enables the parent to sit down with the child, and mark off completed chores from within the child account then re-enter the parent account to verify the completion of chores without any fuss. It is important to note that once an email address and/or password has been added to the child account using the 'Update Info' link the 'Login as Parent' button will be permanently removed from the childrens account. This is a security precaution that prevents computer-literate children from tampering with their cash balance.
